The amount of art-related initiatives sweeping the internet lately confirms that the web is the new artists’ playground. Philadelphia-based Hennessy Youngman has created a Youtube channel called “Art Thoughtz,” which is among the online projects going the most viral. Addressing his audience as “Internet” and wearing comics character baseball caps and layers of gold chains, Hennessy, “aka Pharaoh Hennessy aka HenrockAlypseNow aka Henrack Obama aka Mister Museum,” cleverly combines hip-hop lingo with high-minded art criticism: from the brilliant comparison of Joseph Beuys and Jay-Z in Beuys-Z, one of my personal favorites, to the the hilarious Post Structuralism, Relational Aesthetics, or Beauty, which shed light on art jargon.
Also, if you have always had your heart set on starting an art career but never went to art school, Hennessy Youngman has done you a favor and gives you an opportunity to get your foot in the door with his “MFA on DVD,” launched last Thursday. Shouldn’t Pharaoh Hennessy’s classes convince you in your quest for art knowledge, artist’s collaborative Lucky PDF also just launched their “School of Global Art” project based on so-called “NetworkThetic Learning”.
